Kirkland, Quebec — May 30 th 2026 — The Kirkland Ecclestone Pool is proud to dedicate its annual Swim-a Thon to longtime member Ainsley Rowcliffe, celebrating her strength, resilience, and deep connection to the community that has supported her for over 11 years. The Kirkland Ecclestone Pool also acknowledges the support of local MNA Monsef Deraji, who continues to champion inclusive community spaces that reflect the true spirit of teamwork, accessibility, and belonging.

As the pool marks its 50th anniversary, this year’s event, held under the banner “Team Ainsley” will bring members together on August 14 th to swim in her honor while raising funds for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal, whose care played a critical role in Ainsley’s early life.

Ainsley was born with Polymicrogyria, a rare neurological condition that affects brain development and can lead to seizures and physical challenges. At a young age, she underwent a life-saving hemispherectomy, a complex neurosurgical procedure that successfully stopped her seizures. While the surgery ended her life-threatening epilepsy, Ainsley lives with lasting physical effects, including paralysis on her left side and visual impairment. Despite these challenges, she has remained a dedicated swimmer and an inspiring presence at the pool.

For Ainsley, the Kirkland Ecclestone Pool has been more than a place to train, it has been a safe, supportive environment where she is encouraged to grow, push her limits, and feel a true sense of belonging.

“I look forward to ECC every summer. It is my favourite place,” said Ainsley Rowcliffe. “It is where I get to swim, feel strong and happy. People help me and understand me. I feel like I belong. Being a part of Ecclestone means a lot to me.”

“Ainsley embodies everything our community stands for, courage, perseverance, and positivity,” said Chris Bedic, President, Kirkland Ecclestone Pool. “She inspires swimmers of all ages, and we are honored to celebrate her as part of this milestone year.”

Participants in the Swim-a-Thon will swim to raise funds, culminating in a special moment where Ainsley will present a donation to the Shriners organization in gratitude for their care during the past 21 years of her life. The event is open to all members and supporters, reinforcing the pool’s long-standing commitment to inclusion, community, and the power of sport to transform lives.
